First up, Miss Mary Kay Andrews!
The first book I read was Savannah Blues. I was hooked, just like that! Not only was it set in the lovely cities of Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia, but having had the pleasure of visiting these little gems made the story all the better! Let me tell you this, Miss Mary Kay had a winner with this story!! It combines a mystery (which brings me wwwaaaaaayyyy back to my first love...THE incomparable Nancy Drew) with junking/antiquing, and a romance. A true triumvirate guaranteed to win the heart of any sleuth-in-training/hopeless romantic/antiques lover. So Savannah Blues was great, beyond great actually. Her vernacular is spot-on. Of course it is, she's a local girl. I will not turn this into a biography...that's what Wikipedia is for! But she's totally legit. There's nothing worse than reading a story set somewhere the author doesn't really know much about.
I accidently broke one of my reading rules by starting with Savannah Blues. You see, it wasn't her first book. Little Bitty Lies came first. Luckily, it wasn't part of that series (whew...I would have been devastated to have read things out of order). However, Savannah Blues is the first in a series about two friends, Weezie and BeBe, followed by Savannah Breeze, Blue Christmas, and the newly released Christmas Bliss. There are several other books sprinkled in intermittently between these books, but I like how she comes back to her roots, and brings her readers back to Weezie and BeBe and their lives. Her stand alone books include numerous colorful characters that we'd all love to have as friends, in quaint southern cities and towns! As a Southerner, it just feels right to read a book set in my neck of the woods!
A few of my most favorite books by her include Hissy Fit, Ladies Night, and Save The Date (just released this June). I would encourage you to pick up one of these great books, or revisit them if you've been apart for a while! I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I would also encourage you to explore the Good Reads app (iOS & Android). It's a great way to keep up with books you've read and books you want to read, as well as seeing the vast array of good books out there! The following pictures are a list of Mary Kay Andrews' books, screenshotted from my Good Reads app! How convenient is that! Stay tuned for my next favorite authors post...coming soon! Until then, happy reading!
